Boston<br \/>\nI lived here for eighteen years<br \/>\nNothing happened.<br \/>\nLater I moved to Israel,<br \/>\nwhere I was born again in a desert with mountains in Jordan and Egypt<br \/>\nand open space and open space and<br \/>\nopen space.<br \/>\nI stayed among the date trees until everything was stolen from me<br \/>\nin time to return to the United States<br \/>\nnow with the memory of an era in which I was someone else,<br \/>\nsomeone more loving.<br \/>\nHer pictures decorated my dorm room like the houses of mothers on the news<br \/>\nwho get their fifteen minutes of fame for losing a child,<br \/>\nthe walls upheld only by the network of photos like an intricate spiderweb<br \/>\nThey sleep knowing that their walls are built from loss and that<br \/>\nthat will always be the truth.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px\">Noah Gundersen tells me, you discover that home\u2019s not a person or place, but a feeling you can\u2019t get back.<br \/>\nA few times there were sandstorms that colored the sky a yellowish blue,<br \/>\nthe dome of the atmosphere glazed like a pastry.<br \/>\nLast month when smoke from the west made its cross country journey,<br \/>\nthe horizon hazed over in the same way<br \/>\nThe sky looks like it did under dust.<br \/>\nI wanted to say it aloud every day until<br \/>\nthe fires burnt out<br \/>\nbut I knew I would not speak, and
