Meredith Martindale \u201858 shares her views on the \u201cWorld Situation\u201d<\/p>\n
On March 18th, in the first of four columns, Meredith Martindale \u201858 shared her views on the world in the pages of the Sophian. The piece was titled \u201cStudent Protests World Situation,\u201d and featured a disclaimer at the top which emphasized that the article reflected her personal views, and encouraging students to contact the paper about the series. The part of the article which stood out, were Martindale\u2019s opinions on events in the Middle\/Near East, East & Southeast Asia, and Northern Africa. She lamented the reach of communism, the \u201cpopulation menace\u201d in the Middle East, and Japan\u2019s reintroduction of trade with \u201cRed China.\u201d She even says of North Africa that, \u201call little white brothers\u2019 heads may be sitting on top of a big totem pole as soon as arms arrive.\u201d Perhaps her racialized and western perspectives on countries where people of color were seeking autonomy and separation from western imperialism are what made the Sophian add their disclaimer.<\/i><\/p>\n
