The Executive Board sponsored buses from Smith, at 75 cents a ticket. The senator questioned President Johnson\u2019s methods of seeking peace and condemned U.S. escalation. He advocated for the enclave approach, where American soldiers would hold their ground but not expand into enemy territory, and an appeal to the United Nations.
