Ronald Reagan\u2019s interference<\/p>\n<p><i>Two weeks after assuming office as the governor of California, Ronald Reagan proposed budget cuts to state colleges and universities of a little under 30% and encouraged the dismissal of relatively liberal Clark Kerr, the president of the University of California, by the Board of Regents. Students and faculty members marched to the Sacramento capitol to protest \u201cthe interference of partisan policies into the internal affairs\u201d of California\u2019s institutions of higher education.
