A Black Solidarity poster is set on fire in Scales house, Committee formed to investigate racial tensions<\/p>\n

Around midnight on Wednesday, November 11, 1970, someone set fire to a Black solidarity poster that was hung on a student\u2019s door in Scales House, said to be \u201cthe culmination of various tensions\u201d within the house. After a meeting held with Scales residents, the dean, and President Mendenhall, a faculty committee was formed to conduct a study of racial tensions in the house communities. The investigation examined four different houses, King, Scales, Tyler, and Chapin, involved conversations with residents, and examined possible solutions. <\/i><\/p>\n
