QUEEN MARGARET<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now is the winter of our discontent,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My proud heart sues and prompts my tongue to speak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If I unwittingly, or in my rage, <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Have aught committed that is hardly borne<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By any in this presence, I desire<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To reconcile me to his dear God\u2019s peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By such despair, I should accuse myself,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And thee, that hast nor honesty nor grace<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That cropped the golden prime of this sweet prince.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Tis time to speak,\u2014my pains are quite forgot.\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tell them that God bids us do good for evil,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And seem a saint, when most you play the devil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

O, he <\/em><\/strong>hath kept an evil diet long, <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And overmuch consumed his royal person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Revoke that doom of mercy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You\u2019ll have her;\u2014but will not keep her long, <\/p>\n\n\n\n

You that killed her husband and his father. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So wise so young, they say, do not live long.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

England\u2019s crown is too heavy for your Grace to wear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But I, that am cheated of majesty,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With curses in her mouth, tears in her eyes,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And no thing to back my suit withal<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I do the wrong and first begin to brawl.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Heaven and fortune bar me happy hours!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day, yield me not thy light; nor, night, thy rest!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Be opposite all planets of good luck <\/p>\n\n\n\n

To my proceeding, if, with pure heart\u2019s love, <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Immaculate devotion, holy thoughts, <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I tender not thy death, desolation, ruin, and decay. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shall I be plain?\u2014I wish the bastard dead; <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And I would have it suddenly performed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

My conscience hath a thousand several tongues, <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And every tongue brings in a several tale, <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And every tale condemns you for a villain. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Perjury, perjury in the high\u2019st degree; <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Murdern, stern murder, in the dir\u2019st degree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deformed, unfinished, bloody, and usurping boar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why, I, in this weak piping time of peace, <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Have no delight to pass away the time, <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unless to kill this king, the wretched beast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
