{"id":256,"date":"2023-04-25T13:39:40","date_gmt":"2023-04-25T17:39:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.smith.edu\/wwacd\/?p=256"},"modified":"2023-04-28T12:22:15","modified_gmt":"2023-04-28T16:22:15","slug":"rally-for-adas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.smith.edu\/wwacd\/rally-for-adas\/","title":{"rendered":"Rally for Adas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In 1994, the Ada Class came together, along with many members of the traditional-aged student body and members of faculty, to protest the cuts made in the Ada Comstock Class&#8217; class size and financial aid. From the program&#8217;s inception until the 1989-1990 academic year, the program steadily increased in size and need for financial aid.<sup class='footnote'><a href='#fn-256-1' id='fnref-256-1' onclick='return fdfootnote_show(256)'>1<\/a><\/sup> The 1998-89 academic year saw the largest Ada Class population at 13.5% of the Smith College student body.<sup class='footnote'><a href='#fn-256-2' id='fnref-256-2' onclick='return fdfootnote_show(256)'>2<\/a><\/sup> However, in 1993, the total percentage of the Ada Class population decreased to 9.9% with a total of 277 Adas.<sup class='footnote'><a href='#fn-256-3' id='fnref-256-3' onclick='return fdfootnote_show(256)'>3<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, April 28, more than 100 Ada Comstock Scholars and traditional aged students rallied in front of Neilson Library to protest the diminishing numbers of Ada Comstock Scholars.<sup class='footnote'><a href='#fn-256-4' id='fnref-256-4' onclick='return fdfootnote_show(256)'>4<\/a><\/sup> I was unable to determine whether or not the rally caused any changes in the administrations decisions to make the cuts to the program, but whether or not any occurred, ultimately, program cuts were made.<\/p>\n<style type=\"text\/css\">\n#foogallery-gallery-296 .fg-image { width: 150px; }\n#foogallery-gallery-296 { --fg-gutter: 10px; }<\/style>\n\t\t\t<div class=\"foogallery foogallery-container foogallery-default foogallery-lightbox-foobox fg-center fg-default fg-ready fg-light fg-border-thin fg-shadow-outline fg-loading-default fg-loaded-fade-in fg-caption-hover fg-hover-fade fg-hover-zoom\" id=\"foogallery-gallery-296\" data-foogallery=\"{&quot;item&quot;:{&quot;showCaptionTitle&quot;:true,&quot;showCaptionDescription&quot;:true},&quot;lazy&quot;:true}\" style=\"--fg-title-line-clamp: 0; --fg-description-line-clamp: 0;\" >\n\t<div class=\"fg-item fg-type-image fg-idle\"><figure class=\"fg-item-inner\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.smith.edu\/wwacd\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/963\/2023\/04\/2023-04-24-14-39-28-scaled.jpg\" data-caption-title=\"Rally for Ada&#039;s, 1994.
