The fire pit has an incredible view of the surrounding area. You can see mountains covered in forest in the distance. Next to the chestnut orchard in the field, you can relax in lawn chairs and warm up during winter or soak up the sun during the hotter months. As one of the more open places at the field station, it is also a great place for stargazing. It is right at the edge of the forest, and there are primarily oak and birch trees. There is also a rock wall on the northern edge of the site. This is a good site for thinking about gathering spaces and community. the fire circle lends itself well to sharing music, poetry and spooky stories
