Art at the Smith College MacLeish Field Station

Jimmy Nolan Brook

Jimmy Nolan Brook runs along the eastern edge of the Field Station property. Three rock walls converge in the middle of the brook. The site is covered in moss, ferns, and mushrooms, and surrounded by trees. It is at a lower altitude than most of the land at the station. This site is good for starting conversations about water, humans, and the way our actions and boundaries manipulate the natural environment. Other topics include: civilization growth and decline, winding and straight paths, reflections, clarity and softness and hardness.
