End of the River Photos by Janine Norton

Professional photographer Janine Norton has photographed of the end of the Mill River.

The Mill River ends in Hulburt’s Pond, at a spot near its confluence with the Manahan, where it emptied in the 17th century.  During springtime freshet, the Connecticut and Mill rivers flow into their floodplains, and then you can paddle along the broadening Mill River from Mass Audubon’s Arcadia Sanctury in Easthampton to South Street in Northampton.

Janine Norton, a denizen of the river’s end, has been paddling that section of the Mill River for at least 10 years.  She’s been there whenever water levels allowed passage through the forest of red and silver maples, elms, boxelders, and ash. Since she’s a professional photographer, she was rarely without a camera or two.
