YWCA TechGYRLS

four images of girls participating in the YWCA TechGyrls programs

This week on Instagram (@smithlibraries) I’m highlighting the YWCA TechGyrls programs. These programs encourage girls to engage in programming and technical computer skills. When I came upon these photographs they highlighted the breadth of the YWCA of the USA records to me. So far in my descriptions of microfilm and photographs I have been prior to the 1960’s. When I saw these photographs I was reminded of the ongoing work of the organization and its progression over time. It was also exciting to see color for a change instead of black and white! The microfilm records and serials digitized date from prior to the formation of the YWCA of the USA through the 1970’s. As the example above shows, the photographs extend well into the 1990’s. It is fun to see how the organization evolves but if one thing remains the same and it’s the determination of the women and girls of the YWCA of the USA.
