Materiality in Museums: Material Analysis of Bronze Disease

Historical Background

Greco-Roman bronzes refer to the various cultural objects produced using bronze during the overlap of Greek and Roman civilizations. Bronze was a popular but expensive material used for tools and decorative objects.

A selection of Greco-Roman bronze artifacts from the Smith College Museum of Art (SCMA) was selected. These objects date from the 6th century BCE to the 1st Century CE, with most dated to the 1st century BCE.
