Extra Information:

  • Delftware was created due to the lack of access to Chinese porcelain in the Netherlands – 30 factories were created and each tried to imitate Chinese porcelain1
    • No Dutch company was able to recreate Chinese blue-and-white porcelain because they did not have the correct clay
  • The peacock pattern rose in popularity in the 17th century and remained popular even as the Delft factories started to fail economically2
