“It Is Possible to Suffer with Dignity”: A Critical Reinterpretation of Resistance in Etty Hillesum’s Diaries

Sierra Fogel-Bublick is a 2025 undergraduate from Smith College. She received her degree in history with a minor in government. Her research interests include Holocaust Studies, Jewish History and Contemporary Identity, Psychoanalytic Theory, Gender and Sexuality, Trauma and Memory Studies, Women’s Intellectual & Cultural History, and Critical Theory. Her work is primarily concentrated on women, children, and the historical contingency of ‘innocence.’ Sierra is currently living in Philadelphia where she heads a philosophy reading group and is happily working as a barista. She is currently finalizing a paper for upcoming publication which fortifies the queer uses of Yiddish with the application of queer theory.
