Skylar Ball ’26, Editor-in-Chief
Skylar Ball is a senior at Smith College studying History and English literature. She is particularly interested in early twentieth-century intellectual and social history. Areas of focus include early psychoanalytic history, literary modernism, and Jewish history. She is currently working on an honors thesis about surveillance and sexuality at Smith College between 1914 and 1930. Skylar enjoys running and cooking, and takes great pride in her espresso setup.
Lucy O’Brien ’26, Editor-in-Chief
Lucy O’Brien ’26 is a History and Statistics double major from Connecticut. Within her history degree, she focuses on the history of science, technology, and medicine, with a particular interest in infectious disease. On campus, she works with the CODEX History Lab, where she does everything from visualizing the evolution of the American Historical Association to mapping the spread of the plague across medieval Eurasia. Beyond Smith, Lucy has worked as a research assistant for a history professor in Washington DC and within a virology lab in Seattle.
Margot Johnsen ’27, Editor
Margot Johnsen ’27 is a History and Theatre double major from the San Francisco Bay Area. Her primary research interest is women’s dress history in the United States from 1820-1960. She is excited by quantitative analysis and its utility to explore patterns in historical research. Margot has worked at Gammelgården Museum of Scandia, wearing many hats, including textile restoration. Her love of history and theatre intersects with a passion for period pieces, most recently directing Chekhov’s Three Sisters with Smith’s Student Theatre Committee (STC). As of Spring 2026, she is studying in Germany with the Smith in Hamburg program.
Madigan Dwyer ’26, Editor
Madigan Dwyer ’26 is a graduating senior at Smith College studying History and Italian Studies. Her research interests center on transnational histories of the greater Mediterranean region, with a particular focus on postcolonial, racial, and gender histories. She is currently researching Italian colonial practices in the late Ottoman Empire. Outside of Smith, she works as an archival assistant at Forbes Library, where her research ranges from early abolitionist histories in the Hampshire Valley to Northampton’s lively ‘90s music scene.
Aurora Bagley ’26, Editor
Aurora Bagley is a graduating senior at Smith College studying government and history. They are primarily interested in American Indigenous histories, particularly that of Indian Territory, decolonial political theory, and Indigenous studies more broadly. They recently finished an independent research project on Indigenous political theory, investigating Indigenous and settler temporalities in Indian Territory following the passage of the General Allotment Act. In their spare time, they love watching many movies with their closest friends, journaling, going to the neighborhood arcade, and trying new recipes.
Mary McGrath ’28, Treasurer
Mary McGrath ’28 is a History and Economics double major. She is also a Community Engagement and Social Change Concentrator. With her degree in history, she works in medieval history and is interested in theater. On campus, she works with the CODEX History Lab, where she works in medieval genealogy and the Dies Legibiles. In her spare time, she enjoys reading about current theater and the plays or musicals heading to New York City.
Rae Nack ’27, Editor
Rae Nack is a rising senior in the class of 2027, hailing from Columbus, Ohio. A double major in history and German, with a focus on the social and cultural history of the Ottoman Empire from 1750-1900. She is currently finishing up her year abroad as Alpert of the Smith in Hamburg program. She has worked extensively as an archivist and translator for the German Village Historical Society of Columbus and as a research aid at The Ohio State University. Outside of academics she has a deep passion for creative writing, baking, and drawing.
