This poem was written by Hans Stern, Ernest’s brother, in 1937.
The translation is as follows:
I am not good at writing poetry
But I want to address a few verses to you.
I wish you, Lotte, with all my heart,
that you may see your star’s glitter everywhere
and be spared pain in your future together.
May God hear this wish of mine.
I leave it to Hugo Schwarz,
to set you, Nelly, in gold.
And since he is giving you so many additions,
he will surely give you a live one, too.
Mother Wotizky should not worry
when the two boys take her two daughters away.
May she have lots of joy with the four of them
and with the grangchildren [sic], too.
We also see *** in our midst
the dear grandparents Lowy.
When I see their happiness,
my heart jumps with joy.
They may serve as an example in every respect.
I have finished my versifying
and lift my glass to wish you for all time
health, happiness, and contentment.
