Born in 1920, Lygia Clark was a Brazilian artist who created intricate and interactive paintings and sculptures that reflected her urge to create relationships between art and society. Her work gradually progressed from more static pieces that explored what she called the “organic line,”  to sculptures that were meant to be manipulated by the viewer, and finally to interactive works referred to as “propositions” that transformed the audience into a participant, transgressing the boundaries between a person and others, a person and the art “object,” and a person and their surroundings. Her work explored the idea of art as an object as part of the Neo-Concrete movement.
