2020 SUMMER EDUCATION INTERNSHIP

THE MUSEUM
The National Museum of Toys and Miniatures educates, inspires, and delights adults and children through the museum’s collection and preservation of toys and miniatures. The museum, located in Kansas City, Missouri, contains the world’s largest collection of fine-scale miniatures and one of the nation’s largest antique toy collections on public display.

$2,350 stipend

TIME COMMITMENT AND WEEKLY SCHEDULE
Approximately 220 hours (11 weeks, approx. 20 hours/wk) between May 28—August 8, 2020

WEEKLY SCHEDULE
Tuesday, 12:30 – 4:30 pm; Wednesday and Saturday, 10 am – 4:30 pm; one day each week (TBD) 10 am – 12 pm for programming with Imagine That! (https://www.imaginethatkc.org); the first week (May 28 and 29) includes training from 12:30 – 4:30 pm each day.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Education interns will facilitate the museum’s summer program series, which explores various aspects of the collection through tours, workshops and gallery presentations. The primary audiences for the program are multi-generational families. Interns will gain meaningful professional experience in museum education by delivering public programs and leading pre-structured, hands-on workshops. The education intern team will also work collaboratively to create a new program that will be presented at the end of the summer session. Interns will help facilitate additional weekly art workshops for artists with developmental disabilities. Interns will also complete readings and weekly discussions about the museum field and museum education.

QUALIFICATIONS
Ideal applicants will have completed their junior year in college. Candidates must have strong interpersonal skills and have demonstrated experience with public speaking and working with the public, especially children and families. Must be a self-starter with high standards, exemplary problem-solving skills, and the ability to work well in a collaborative team environment. History, art, education, museum studies, or any students interested in a career in the museum field are encouraged to apply.
