2020 SUMMER EVALUATION INTERNSHIP

THE MUSEUM
The National Museum of Toys and Miniatures educates, inspires, and delights adults and children through the museum’s collection and preservation of toys and miniatures. The museum, located in Kansas City, Missouri, contains the world’s largest collection of fine-scale miniatures and one of the nation’s largest antique toy collections on public display.

TIME COMMITMENT
Approximately 200 hours (11 weeks) beginning May 28, 2020

WEEKLY SCHEDULE
Supervisor and intern will determine schedule, which is flexible but will require some weekend days.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
The evaluation intern will develop a comprehensive evaluation program to explore the effectiveness of the museum’s programming as well as various interpretive efforts in the galleries. The intern will work with the Museum Educator, as well as other staff members, to research, design, implement, analyze and report findings from highlight focused evaluations, which may include visitor observations, interviews, questionnaires or more. The evaluation intern will gain valuable experience in visitor evaluation, visitor services and museum work.

QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates should be graduate students or undergraduates who have completed their junior year. Candidates must have strong interpersonal skills, public speaking experience, and demonstrated experience working with the public. Must be a self-starter with high standards, have excellent oral and written communication skills, record information accurately, and be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. High attention to detail and ability to work independently are crucial. Experience in museum visitor evaluation, or quantitative and qualitative research methods is preferred. Museum Studies, Education, Anthropology, Arts Administration, Social and Behavioral Sciences, or Marketing students are encouraged to apply.
