Social Scientist David Riesman speaks at Smith

Noted social scientist and educator David Riesman gave two consecutive talks at Smith, one at 8pm on March 11th in Sage Hall, and another at 4pm the following day in Graham Hall. The lectures were titled “Marginality and Insight – Minorities and the threat of Conformity,” and “Political Apathy,” respectively. Riesman was the visiting lecturer for the annual Anna Hunt Billings Memorial Lecture Series, established in 1947 by a relative of Sophia Smith. The lecture series was intended to “promote better understanding of racial minorities in the United States and better relations with them..”
