Sophian investigates Smithies’ opinions on Little Rock

In the wake of president Eisenhower’s use of troops to ensure the safety of the Little Rock Nine in Arkansas after Governor Faubus refused to desegregate the schools, the Sophian produced a cover story on the views of Smith students on the “Little Rock crisis.” The general view of those interviewed was that Faubus had left the president no other choice, and that the use of troops was justified. The cover story was a follow up to an earlier article in the Sophian detailing the events.
