Martin Luther King Jr. Comes to Smith

On Sunday, April 16th, MLK came to Smith as the guest preacher at the Chapel, and following his sermon lead a discussion in Cushing House, to which all were invited. His arrival at Smith came following his work in the historic Montgomery Bus Boycott. In his talk with students, King discussed the relationship between the NAACP and both black and white Southerners, the importance of accelerating integration, and the struggle and adversity present at all sites of progress.
