Gov. Wallace speaks, students & faculty stage peaceful protest
On Wednesday night, November 6th, Governor Wallace spoke to a packed audience at JMG. He warned against the “jungle school system” integration would cause, denied any disparities in the education of blacks and whites, and warned against the terrors of central government’s infringement on states’ rights. Outside, a crowd of almost 600 students, faculty, and locals gather in silent protest, holding signs with such phrases as “Freedom Now” and “Freedom to Speak, Freedom to Vote.”
