In response to demands, draft of civil rights policy presented
Lawyers drew up the draft of a civil rights policy and presented it to President Dunn within the ten days stipulated by the Concerned Students of All Colors (CSAC) at the April 24th open meeting. Although a final product was not ready by the ten-day deadline and the other CSAC short-term demands remained unmet, the student group did not file charges with the District Attorney. As Asha Kilaru ‘91 framed it, “Filing charge was the last resort. We wanted to work with the administration.” The civil rights policy would still have to be voted on at the Board of Trustees meeting in the fall, but CSAC viewed it as a big step in the right direction. President Dunn also began addressing some of the other CSAC short-term demands within the ten days, including those that had been given a deadline of September.
