Alumna Anne Spurzem writes letter to the Sophian attacking diversity and changing student demographics at Smith
On Rally Day, Anne Spurzem, who graduated in 1984, wrote to the Smith Sophian. In her letter to the editor, Spurzem criticized Smith for accepting students who are people of color, gay, low-income, international, or straight and white but unable to get into Ivy League schools. She insinuates that Smith’s reputation has gone down due to these students, and bemoans the fact that “the days of white, wealthy, upper-class students from prep schools in cashmere coats and pearls who marry Amherst men are over.”
