Chapter 2

Intersectionality

Chapter 2 introduces the concept of intersectionality—how gender, race, class, and other aspects of identity intersect to shape people’s experience of sexual harassment beginning with an examination of the Anita Hill/Clarence Thomas hearings in 1991. It also reviews contemporary examples of the intersectionality of sex-based oppression, such as immigrant farmworker women and low-wage restaurant workers.
