Former Director Everett Kimball dedicated his late retirement to writing an in-depth history of the school he directed for almost twenty years, 1923-1941.

His efforts resulted in the longest and most comprehensive history of the early SSW. While this is a monumental achievement, it is important to recognize that his work was affected by his perceptions of women, including Mary Jarrett. You can use this document and the letters between Bertha Capen Reynolds and Kimball in the 1930s to see how differently Capen Reynolds and Kimball perceived her departure from SSW and the reasons for it. Discerning these differences can aid current leaders assess the expectations they have of those they work with and areas where their preconceptions may impinge upon those expectations.

The following pdfs offer the entirety of Kimball’s 104 page unpublished manuscript, including marginalia. Because he discusses the deanship of Howard Parad as a current reality, it seems likely that he wrote it in the 1960s.
Don’t be discouraged by the poor visual quality of the first few pages. Most of the pdf is quite readable.
