Benjamin Fine discusses Little Rock at Helen Hills Hills
It was a Friday evening in the Chapel lounge when Benjamin Fine, former Education Editor for the New York Times and newly appointed dean of Yeshiva University’s Graduate School of Education, came to speak. His talk covered his time in Little Rock, Governor Faubus’ instrumental role in creating a state of crisis, and the ongoing tensions there. It was only recently that one of the Little Rock Nine was expelled after calling a white student who had been harassing her for weeks “white trash.” Fine believed it could take as long as 200 years for some southern states to fully integrate.
