Eric Weinberger speaks on civil rights unemployment project

Eric Weinberger, member of the Committee for Nonviolent Action and founder of the Totebags for Freedom co-op, was invited to campus to talk about his project. In Brownsville, Tennessee, Weinberger started the co-op with the economic support of black leadership in the area with the aim of “provid[ing] some income for families displaced by the Negro voter registration drive”. At the time of his discourse in the Smith Chapel Lounge, 75 black families were running the co-op, which had become a self-sustaining success.
