Smith and Amherst students submit proposal for Hampshire College

Students from Smith and Amherst submitted a proposal on their desired aims and organization for the new college opening in the Four-College area in 1968: Hampshire College. With their proposal, they wanted “to broaden the definition of education. We want to put as much emphasis on the personal and social aspects of the student’s life as on the intellectual aspects, on the assumption that these realistically cannot be separated.”
