SNCC chairman Stokely Carmichael speaks at Smith

Stokely Carmichael, the chairman of the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), gave a speech at John M. Greene Hall as part of his tour of colleges in the Northeast. He defined and explained black power and urged white liberals to focus on organizing the white community instead of going to the South to organize the black community, fielding questions from the audience on the Black Muslims, Senator-Elect Brooke, and Reverend James Pike.
