NSA resolution on the draft and volunteer service

After a poll conducted by the National Student Association (NSA) revealed that many students were not satisfied with the present Selective Service System but were in favor of non-military service (Peace Corps, Teacher Corps, etc.), leaders of 17 student organizations held a two-day conference in Washington. They emerged with a resolution condemning the injustices of the draft as it was being run and asserting that “An urgent need exists within our society for young people to become involved in the elimination of such social ills as ignorance, poverty, racial discrimination and war.”
