Mississippi civil rights leader warns of “slowdown”
Marian Wright, chief counsel for the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund and a member of the Mississippi bar, spoke in Wright Hall about recent incidents in Grenada, MS and a situation she conceived of as a slowdown in civil rights. (She published a related article in the New York Times on February 7th.) Contributions to civil rights organizations were significantly down, southern civil rights workers were being pulled to the South, southern civil rights groups were losing their members, and concern over Vietnam was overshadowing civil rights issues.
