Draft of Smith Design for Affirmative Action and Institutional Diversity released

President Dunn distributed copies of the draft for The Smith Design for Affirmative Action and Institutional Diversity: A Call to Action to members of the Student Government Association (SGA) council and the heads of selected student organizations. The Smith Design was a planning document she and a task force of different committees had been working on in response to the Concerned Students of All Colors (CSAC) demands from April. The draft included plans for a civil rights policy and grievance procedure, as well as for increasing the population of people of color in all sectors of the campus community. Specifically, there were goals to have ten percent of faculty be people of color by 1992/1993, fifteen percent be people of color by 1995/1996, and twenty percent be people of color by 1998/1999. The plan incorporated and addressed many of the CSAC demands and grievances; however, in a later press release, members of CSAC expressed concern over the lack of campus-wide distribution of the draft and the limited amount of student input.
