Union of Underrepresented Science Students (UUSS) chartered

(Date is for when it was reported in the Sophian)

Almost a year after they submitted their petition to the Student Government Association (SGA), the Union of Underrepresented Science Students (UUSS) was officially chartered as a Smith student organization. The organization’s mission was to address the racial discrimination and underrepresentation of students of color in the science disciplines. It originated from conversations between black students, Latina students, and other students of color around issues such as how it felt to be the only person of color in a science classroom and the lack of exposure students had to role models of color in the sciences.
