Students march to President McCartney’s house during trustee dinner to protest Lagarde
On Friday May 2nd, just weeks before commencement Smithies marched through campus to the President’s house, interrupting a trustees dinner. They chanted things like, “No IMF,” “God-goddamnit, capitalism is killing the planet,” ““Whose school? Our school!” and, “The Smithies united, will never be defeated!” At one point the president and the trustees in attendance did come outside to speak with protesters, but the consensus was still that the college could not rescind their invitation. This event was followed by three sit ins, email blasts to the President and Lagarde, and calls to the IMF office in Washington, D.C.
