President McCartney addresses alumnae panel incident
The week following the incident, President McCartney sent an email to the Smith Community responding to the alumna’s comment and the backlash it received. She recognized that many people were upset that she did not criticize Kaminer’s views at the panel, and that some faculty and students had been upset. The email went on to discuss meetings between the president and various students orgs and groups (BSA, SJE reps) along with faculty members to discuss potential race-based campus initiative. Nowhere in the email did the President specifically denounce Kaminer’s views or apologized explicitly for not rising to the occasion as some students had hoped she would.
