Witness to situation of North Vietnamese gives testimony
Author Barbara Deming was one of four American women who went to North Vietnam in January to see for themselves the situation there. She recounted to a Smith audience the horrors and the wreckage she had seen and heard about, the human, civilian cost of U.S. actions. She said that “It is my painful conviction that the U.S. government is not simply bombing ‘steel and concrete’… it is waging a war of terror to make them surrender.” She received a standing ovation at Wright Hall.
