Toni Morrison visits Smith to speak on The Bluest Eye
Toni Morrison spoke about her book The Bluest Eye at John M. Greene Hall Monday afternoon. The Bluest Eye had been assigned as the summer reading book for incoming first years. Morrison was greeted with a full house: every seat was occupied and there were people standing in the hallway and the balcony. She had agreed to come to Smith because President Simmons, a friend of hers, had requested that she address the college community. Morrison spoke for 45 minutes, reading excerpts of the newest novel she was working on, Paradise, and answering selected questions on The Bluest Eye.
