Campus Climate Working Group (CCWG) holds discussion on race and diversity
The Campus Climate Working Group (CCWG) drew over 80 people to its meeting on diversity. It was the largest group the CCWG had gathered yet, and many of those present were first-time participants. Each person was asked to write down an incident of racism they had seen or experienced at Smith on an index card. The cards were then collected and redistributed so that people at each table could discuss power dynamics and consequences for the situations. As Director of Institutional Diversity Brenda Allen pointed out, one reason the group had chosen to discuss these topics was that they wanted to impress upon incoming President Carol Christ that diversity at Smith was a definite priority.
