Sit-in at College Hall
Close to 200 students staged an hour-long sit-in at College Hall the morning after homophobic and racist messages were reported in Gardiner House, the fourth of such incidents within a three-week period. Acting President John Connolly, whose office was being blocked, told students that “I think we are all together on this” and emphasized that “It is important not to divide the community more than the community is already divided.” He said he would call an all-college meeting for later that day. When a student invited him to sit down with them, President Connolly agreed, joining the students, Dean of the College Maureen Mahoney, and Director of Institutional Diversity Brenda Allen on the lobby floor.
A Daily Hampshire Gazette (Northampton) article on the sit-in can be found here.
