Nosotras heads No Grapes Committee
As part of an effort to get Smith College to ban table grapes, Nosotras headed a campaign called the No Grapes Committee. Their efforts were in support of the United Farm Workers of America (UFW), who were aiming for an international boycott in protest of the harmful pesticides used in grape growing that had caused birth defects and cancer in Californian farm workers’ children. When Nosotras contacted Residential and Dinings Services (RADS), they were told that any ban would be on a house-by-house basis. As a result, they planned to tackle the issue house-by-house, giving presentations and handing out informational materials at house teas and doing a sweep of the houses during a series of evenings to talk with students. They also planned to have public viewings of the No Grapes video and to circulate a petition.
