Meridians is looking for five Associate Editors, each with expertise in one the following areas:

1. Associate Editor for Transnational and Global Feminisms

Scope: Feminist theories and movements across global and comparative contexts

2. Associate Editor for Race, Ethnicity, Racialization, Diaspora and Migration

Scope: Race, racial formation, ethnicity, indigeneity, racial capitalism, diasporic formations, migration, exile,

and transnational belonging.

3. Associate Editor for Arts, Cultural Production, and Pedagogy

Scope: Visual art, literature, performance, film, other creative/critical forms, and feminist pedagogy

4. Associate Editor for Politics and Social Movements

Scope: Political economy, activism, and feminist movements

5. Associate Editor for Creative Writing

Scope: Poetry, fiction, plays, and creative nonfiction

Qualifications and Experience | Associate Editors are faculty members who typically have:

• A strong record of scholarly publication in fields relevant to feminism, race, transnationalism, or interdisciplinary humanities, social sciences, or STEM.
• Demonstrated engagement with feminist, anti-racist, and/or decolonial scholarship, creative writing, arts production, or activism.
• Experience with peer review and academic publishing (as an author, reviewer, or editor).
• Excellent judgment, communication skills, and organizational capacity.
• A demonstrated commitment to ethical editorial practices and collaborative governance.
• A strong record of service to the profession, the college, and their departments/programs.

Term Lengths

• Associate Editors serve for renewable terms of three (3) years, consistent with Meridians editorial bylaws and

Duke University Press norms.

• Terms are staggered when possible to ensure continuity and institutional memory.

Reporting Lines

• Associate Editors report directly to the Editor-in-Chief.
• They work collaboratively with other Associate Editors, the Administrative Manager, and the Administrative Assistant/Editorial Coordinator.
• All final publication decisions rest with the Editor-in-Chief

Anticipated Time Commitment

• Associate Editors should anticipate regular engagement with Meridians-related work throughout the calendar year, including manuscript handling, editorial group and all-staff meetings, and strategic consultations.
• Editorial responsibilities are ongoing and vary by submission volume.
• In-person meeting attendance is required, including but not limited to:
  • Editorial Group meetings scheduled after the three submission and peer review periods (May 31, September 30, and January 31 each calendar year).
  • All-staff meetings monthly
  • National Women’s Studies Association Meeting (November)
  • Annual Retreat (May)
  • Associate Editor area of specialization duties-related meetings
• Participation/attendance at events on and off Smith campus
• Standing in for the EIC during sabbatical leaves
