American Studies Association Annual Meeting in Montreal, QC – November 2023

The 2023 American Studies Association Annual Meeting took place November 2-5, 2023 in Montreal, QC, Canada. The theme of the conference was “Solidarity: What Love Looks Like in Public.” Meridians Editor Ginetta E.B. Candelario moderated a panel about The Meridians Project alongside guest editors of Meridians Vol. 21, No. 2 “Feminist Mournings,” Jyoti Puri (left) and Kimberly Juanita Brown (center).


Global Studies Conference Poster Presentation at Oxford – July 2023

In July 2023, Editor Ginetta E.B. Candelario ’90 presented on Meridians in a poster session at the 16th Global Studies Conference at Oxford Brookes University in Oxford, United Kingdom.


Paris Smith Club Event – July 2023

Ginetta E.B. Candelario ’90 traveled to Paris in July 2023 and co-hosted a conversation entitled “Beyond Borders: Women of Colors’ Feminisms and the Intersection of Race, Gender, and Transnationalism” with Saara Bouhouche AMS Dipl. ’11. Saara Bouhouche is the Founder and Chair of the Race Across the Pond Initiative and the Director of WCAPS France Chapter. She is a French Anti-Racism & Gender Equality Advocate and a Humanitarian, Peace & Security Expert.


London Smith Club Event at the home of Trustee Emerita – June 2022

On July 22, 2023, Trustees Emerita Neelum Amin ’86 and Arlene Cohrs ’80 hosted a conversation on transnational feminist solidarity between Meridians‘ Editor Ginetta Candelario ’90 and 2023 Smith Rally Day Medalist Shaharzad Akbar ’09 at Amin’s home in London. The gathering of a dozen alumnae and several of their spouses focused on how Meridians and alumnae can support women and girls in Afghanistan in keeping with transnational feminist solidarity best practices.
