This Golden Jubilee issue contains a history of the Alumni Association, a letter from Dean Howard Parad on the cusp of curriculum changes, and reminiscences of the early days of the SSW from Mary Cynthia Smith, M.S.S. 1920.

She recalls with amusement her resistance to the enthusiastic attempts of Miss Jarrett and Dr. Spaulding to convert her to their newly acquired Freudian ideas. In spite of their best efforts she remained a ‘rebel’ in that class because of her inability to accept what didn’t seem to her to fit in with her previous knowledge and life experiences. While the Freudian psychology was not very palatable, the social casework method and the need for relating understanding of the home and family relationships to the medical regime in the successful treatment of illness were invaluable to her.
