RACE sponsors Black-white Exchange

The RACE (Response through Action, Commitment, and Education) Committee sponsored open discussions on black-white relations at Smith on March 9th in Gardiner House and on March 16th in Cutter House, canceling a third discussion planned for March 23rd in Gillett House due to lack of student interest. Black and white students expressed the tensions they felt in intergroup house interactions as well as more structural aspects of the College, from inadequate administrative response to non-inclusive curriculum. These meetings helped with the circulation of a petition to get three black students onto the Committee to Select Head Residents, signed by 500 students.
