Two students receive racist hate notes, President Dunn sends memo

President Dunn sent a campus-wide memo about hate notes with racial slurs that had been received by two students in the previous two weeks, saying, “This behavior is not acceptable at Smith College.” The College launched an investigation into the notes, but Dean of the College Ann Burger and other administrators emphasized that the Smith community members should cultivate awareness of the general problem and look within themselves rather than trying to find out specific details about the incidents.
