Students’ Grassroots Organizing Group presents a written list of demands, holds rally

Students came together to form the Students’ Grassroots Organizing Group in response to the racist and homophobic events of Spring 2002. After sending the administration a list of 19 demands regarding race and equity at Smith, the Students’ Grassroots Organizing Group organized a April 16th rally. The rally was to address the trends of discrimination on campus. Hundreds of Smith community members gathered in front of Neilson library during their lunch hour. Students and administrators spoke about what had been happening, with some students also sharing their poems and songs. Besides the Students’ Grassroots Organizing Group, many Unity organizations also supported the rally.

The group’s demands can be found here (1, 2, 3, 4, 5).
