President Connolly addresses Open Campus, Discovery Weekend admitted students
In the midst of all of the turmoil taking place on Smith’s campus, admitted students considering Smith came to visit for the Open Campus event. In addition, some students were there specifically for Discovery Weekend, an event for admitted students of color. In his opening remarks for both events, Acting President Connolly mentioned the racist and homophobic issues happening on campus, but was quick to assure those listening that the students and the administration were working to get past it. In his remarks to the Discovery Weekend group, he said that he disagreed with the Students’ Grassroots Organizing Group flyers and chalkings that stated, “Smith is a racist, classist, homophobic institution.”
