Students’ Grassroots Organizing Group and administrators come to an agreement

Through several meetings that took place between April 17th and April 29th, the Students’ Grassroots Organizing Group and the administration were able to draw up a document outlining changes to be made to Smith’s institutional structure. Their agreement was titled “Repairing the Community.” Concrete plans of action were included for areas of Smith that ranged from Residence Life to bias complaint procedures. Evaluations were also built into the agreement in order to verify whether progress was being made in a timely manner. Both John Connolly, acting president, and Carol Christ, incoming president, signed the document. In the Students’ Grassroots Organizing Group statement in the document, students emphasized that “while these structural changes are a step in the right direction, they will not be effective unless every individual makes a commitment to self-education and the pursuit of change.”

The agreement can be found here (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8).

A Daily Hampshire Gazette article on the agreement can be found here.
